DAVID WEINTRAUB WRITING/EDITING/PHOTOGRAPHY
David is a photographer, writer, and editor based in South Carolina and Cape Cod. He specializes in photographing people on location for corporate and editorial publications. His publication credits include magazines such as the American Bar Association Journal, Audubon, Backpacker, Entrepreneur, Forbes, Information Week, Sierra, Smithsonian, and Sunset, and books such as San Francisco: The City's Sights and Secrets (Chronicle Books), The World of Shorebirds (Sierra Club Books), and Cape Cod on My Mind (Falcon Publishing). David also produces and maintains a large stock file of color transparencies. His stock photography is represented by Photo Researchers, Stock Boston, and their affiliates. In addition to his 30-year career as a professional photographer, David is the author of seven books and hundreds of newspaper and magazine articles about photography, travel, and adventure sports. For many years, David was a staff writer for Photo District News, the leading international trade publication for professional photographers. He also taught photography at the Academy of Art College, City College of San Francisco, and UC Berkeley Extension. David was a long-time member of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) and held several leadership positions. He is currently a member of the North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA). Born and raised in New York City, David attended Columbia University and received a BA degree in English and Comparative Literature in 1970. After graduating, he moved to Portland, Oregon, where he worked for a weekly newspaper and took classes in photojournalism at Portland State University and color photography at Portland Community College. In 1974, he began work at the Oregon Journal, a daily newspaper in Portland. He worked for the next eight years as a staff photographer for newspapers in Portland and Salem, including the Oregonian and the Statesman-Journal. In 1980, David began accepting freelance assignments, building a clientele that included advertising agencies, corporations, graphic designers, magazines, newspapers, and public relations firms. In May, 1987, David moved to San Francisco, worked for three years as a freelance photographer for the Associated Press, and later expanded his photography and writing business to include freelance editing for publishers of nonfiction books.
